"Harris emigrated to Prince Edward Island with his family in 1856. He became a popular illustrator and portrait painter. He is chiefly remembered for his famous historical painting "The Fathers of Confederation". Using the artist letters as his source, Williamson reconstructs Harris's early years, his travels, his work as a portraitist, his teaching methods and principles, the artistic and political life in Montreal and his relationships with members of his family."
